Outfit of the week!

Shenae Grimes is most definitely a style icon. In fact, I would go further: she is a style GOD. The biker style leather jacket balances out the pretty girly skirt, and gives what should be a melt-in-your-mouth sweet kind of look an extra edge. The flower applique skirt, left the main focus of the outfit by the plain white t-shirt, is absolutely gorgeous! All in all, the outfit looks perfectly nochalant with just the right amount of thrown-togetherness that is needed to exude the cool It-girl aroma. My only criticism is that Shenae normally isn't afraid to push the boat out a bit- perhaps a coloured t-shirt under the leather jacket would have given the outfit an extra pop?

Seeing Double

The Olsen Twins.

I can't get over how much I love the Olsen Twins, even though I'm no longer 11 years old watching re-runs of 'So Little Time!' What I admire more than their acting skills is their talents as designers- together they design 'The Row' and launched 'Elizabeth and James,' to much critical acclaim. You can't help but notice their personal eclectic styles either: both have a penchant for mixing vintage with modern, lace with sheer, colour with colour and the like. You will never see these girls in the same outfit twice. Or looking at all normal. They look like Anna Wintours most loyal disciples, and even though they may not always look 'good' as such, they most certainly always look stylish and original. Which are way cooler adjectives than the simple 'good'!

I really want to raid their wardrobes...

The VMA's 2010

Ashley Greene looks stunning in a simple monochrome number. I adore the slight ruffling of the skirt and the girly lace- it takes a normally mundane colour combination to the next level.
I adore Audrina Partridge's spangled silver dress however the metallic silver belt looks slightly tacky.
As always, Florence steals the show in a vintage inspired lacy evening gown, which clings in all the right places. I love the cutout sections on the waist: they acentuate her curves as well as making the dress look more modern.
You have to admire Katy Perry for her daring personality when it comes to style, especially awards style! What should be a very girly dress, with the white feathered ruffles, morphs into a grungy but sexy style with the sheer patterend top half.
Like Katy, Kesha is another adventurous dresser. I love the black dress itself but the fur is slightly over the top, making her look half human, half bird!
I like the fact that Lo Bosworth has chosen a different colour other than the conservative black and white colours seen on every other star at the VMA's. Her dress is edgy, and in my opinion the one sleeve makes the dress, giving it edge as well as class.
I adore Selena's dress; she looks incredible! Normally I would hate the metallic sheen of the dress, however Selena pulls it off. The jewels compliment the dress, and give it a winter wonderland feel, but at the same time the dress exudes street edge and cool what with the body con corset and thigh split. I think it's incredible how the dress can be so versatile, changing swiftly from one type of style to another depending on the angle you look at it. It's a great dress!

The Art of Elegance

Victoria Beckham, the previous Queen of Wags, proved her style credentials yesterday when she showcased her amazing Spring/Summer 2011 collection. Instead of just focusing on dresses, the collection extended to boxy birkin-inspired bags self titled after Victoria herself; it was these pale shaded bags which really got the It crowd buzzing. The collection was a celebration of the 'fuller woman'- perhaps an odd choice as there is no woman more renowned for looking worryingly sparrow-like and whose brekfasts probably consist of diet pills and lettuce leaves- using interesting corsets and volume to emphasize and enhance curves. Overall, the collection was extrememly well recieved and her dresses will certainly be heading towards a 'Look' red carpet article near you!

The best of the collection:

Jeans of the Moment

Leighton Meester was spotted at a recent premiere wearing perhaps this seasons most covetable jeans, by Proenza Schouler. The jeans are high-waisted, (this season's shape) and a scrumptious shade of blue, perfect for the summer over-hang trend of aquamarine inspirations. The tie-dye effect also ticks the pattern box, as well as exuding effortless cool. These jeans would be perfectly in place at college, but would look equally as fabulous all dressed up for a night out, à la Leighton.

By wearing a simple cropped knit on top, Leighton ensures that all the focus is on the jeans, therefore keeping her outfit suitably minimalist. The sky scraper heels dress the jeans up, however a sprinkling of gold statement jewellry, perhaps an elegant necklace, would have made the outfit really stand out, taking it from a sigh of 'ahhhhhh' to a exclamation of 'wow!'

Fashion's Night Out - London

Fashion's night out, hosted by Vogue in London on the 8th of September was a night of fashion celebration. With a load of shops taking part, from high street guru Topshop to up-and-coming chains like Bershka, everyone took part. Many shops had live DJ's, competitions, one-off pieces and free goody bags filled with fashion-forward stuff, making it a night to remember. The bigger names, such as Burberry, pulled out all the stops, hosting bands such as One Night Only and throwing monumental parties. Of course, all the big names were out on the town:

Claudia Schiffer
Amber Le Bon

Gwyneth Paltrow
Thandie Newton

No one does it like they do in Beverly Hills

The 90210 stars are all set to top this months best dressed lists after stepping out in serious Hollywood style at the Food &Wine's taste of Beverly Hills event on September 2nd.
Shenae Grimes opted for a pretty vintage dress with an eye catching print and a nod to last season's underwear as outerwear trend. Her statement shoes updated the dress and added a bit of drama to an ultra girly outfit.
Jessica Stroup went for a black embellished dress which showed off her glowing tan to the maximum. Her shoes, being minimal plain black courts, left the dress to do all the talking, following the minimalist trend of AW/2010.
Annalynne McCord looked hot in a tight fitting little black dress, which showed off her statement necklace. Although not quite as dressed up as her co-stars, she pulled the look off, making it look more formal with an elegant hairdo.
Jessica Lowndes, in my favourite dress of them all, looked stunning in a deep yellow toned dress. With its embellishments around the neckline, the look is ever so slightly bohemian.

Chanel St. Tropez Show

Yes, I am still mourning summer. Yes, I know it is now way too cold to be walking around in billowy kaftans and psychedelic colours. But I can still lust after Karl Lagerfield's impressive cruise collection he showcased in the postcard setting of St.Tropez:
Slightly outlandish, but fashion wouldn't be fun if it didn't rock the boat a bit
Talk about all-american beach babe!
Georgia Jagger models a Brigitte Bardot inspired look

In my opinion, this looks like a prized piece you would find after rummaging around in some fabulous vintage boutique in a foreign sun-kissed country.

Oh, the sweet last days of summer

Flicking through this september issue of Teen Vogue I spotted a truly stunning photograph: a beautiful young girl without a care in the world, laughing next to a sparkling ocean as she walked her dog. In my opinion, the picture captured the carefree spirit of summer, and radiated youthful exuberance. I then cast my eyes on the clothes and instantly fell head over heels in love:

The flowing dress has just the right amount of volume to allow it to billow in the sea breeze, making for an ideal summer silhouette, while the jumper gives what should be a perfectly groomed outfit a bit of irony, representing the young don't -take-yourself-too-seriously attitude of 2010.  I adore the soft muted palette, and am currently wishing myself back to those heady summer evenings....

The next BIG thing

Channel hill-billy chic this Autumn with the most coveted and copied luxury item of the season: the oversized jumper. Make like D&G in an alpine inspired number, or head to Primark (I'm being serious, for once, the bargain store has come up trumps!) for a similar sweater for a twentieth of the price. Or, try a cable knit slubby jumper, preferably in a sandy camel colour or dark navy, as seen at Marc Jacobs. For a cheaper version, head to Polo Ralph Lauren.
It's big, it's cosy, it hides the post-flake 99's extra few pounds, and stormed this season's catwalks- what's not to love?

London Calling

So yesterday I went on my much anticipated shopping trip to one of the most famous high streets in the world: London's Oxford Street. Of course, I started with Topshop, which took me 2 hours in total to ransack...I left empty handed. Frustrated, I moved on to Urban Outfitters, which is my idea of heaven: it's just one enormous dressing up box! With 3 floors, a home collection and a mini library, when shopping in Urban Outfitters one isn't shopping for their wardrobe, they're shopping a lifestyle. Here I picked up a gorgeous new purse, complete with vintage-inspired 50's floral print, and a very cute mug which is a birthday present for my best friend.

I trekked the rest of Oxford street, Regent street and Carnaby street, going into H&M 3 times, River Island twice, Urban Outfitters twice and Topshop twice. I only bought one more thing. As you can imagine I was fuming- I had come to London expecting to have a very poorly bank balance and as much debt as Britain's economy. Instead, I ended up with three items, as nothing I picked up either fitted, had my size, or was a reasonable price. I did see my ideal bag in London but it was from Miu Miu and cost about £700! The third item I bought was a Topshop Shearling Aviator jacket. I admit I splashed out a bit on this item, but it was the only leather-look jacket I found along the high street which didnt look like it had come straight out of Eastenders. I love this jacket! In a few days time I will get some pictures of some outfits with it, and upload them to the blog.

The Modern Silhouette

Autumn/Winter 2010 is all about The Silhouette: it's about feminine shapes, structured pieces and sophisticated cuts. This season fashion has grown up and reached adulthood- the ditsy girlish prints have been replaced with sensible neutrals, like camel. AW/10 can be summed up by one piece of clothing: Celine's cropped trousers with the slight kick flare. Being very elegantly cut, this piece screams sophistication, and makes for a very clean cut outline. The length also connotes grown-up chic, stopping just short of the ankles to reveal the tiniest hint of skin; an older, classier kind of sexiness. Think 50's screen siren glamour. The kick flare at the bottom updates the trousers, as well as giving what should be very serious clothes a note of fun. So you can still be a stylish high-flyer with a bit of edge, wit and recreation too. Very 2010!

The Trouser of the season- expect to see in a high street near you!

My brand new style crush!

Jessica Lowndes, of '90210' fame, is definitely my red carpet style crush! Recently she has upped the style stakes in a minxy short red dress, looking very Megan Fox-y! With a penchant for girly ruffles and fitted LBD's what's not to love about this starlets dress taste? Here are some of her best and most recent red carpet moments:

Looking perfectly polished in a vintage inspired number that ticks all the 50's trend boxes.
